A Placemat Purse for the Holidays

This afternoon, I visited the fabric store (a dangerous place for me, I might add!). I was looking for a specific bolt of fabric that I had purchased yardage from a few weeks ago. I had used almost all of what I had on hand for the lining of a placemat purse.

Embroidering a Thanksgiving Placemat

This past week, I have been working on Thanksgiving placemats. I had hoped to finish them in time for you to seen them before Thanksgiving…but I have been pushing it. So, here is a glimpse of what I have been working on recently.

High-Flying Poultry Projectiles!

My aunt recently sent us a terrific Thanksgiving craft idea for entertaining the children on Thanksgiving Day! We call it the “Turkey Catapult”. The children love this activity, and it doesn’t take long for high flying frivolity to ensue! (If truth be known, the adults get quite a laugh out of it, too.) And, most of the materials are things that you have readily available at the Thanksgiving dinner table!

My Own UK Reindeer-Moose

I have been checking the mailbox each day with bated breath in high hopes that this would be the day that I would receive a package from the UK. Finally! Yesterday was the day! Yay! A package arrived from my dear, sweet swap partner in the UK.

International Mystery Box Contents Revealed!

I have been participating in an international handmade tree decoration swap through the Down to Earth Forum.  My swap partner recipient lives in the UK, and she just posted to the forum that she has received the goodies that I made.
Do you remember the International Mystery Boxes?  Well…here are some pictures of the contents of [...]

Don’t Flush Those Dollar Bills!

As, I pondered the three piles of roasted chicken bones…I remembered a life lesson that I learned as a teen from an older, wiser friend who had successfully raised seven children to adulthood. “What would you think if I were to flush a dollar bill down the toilet?” she asked. “You would think I was very foolish, wouldn’t you?”

Make the Wreath…Today

“Will you make a wreath with me?” my seven year old daughter asked.  She had been watching the Thanksgiving wreath-making merriment with more interest that I had realized.
This request became her mantra over the next few days.
“How about tomorrow after breakfast?” I replied, when once again she made her plea.  My husband looked at me [...]

A Grapevine Wreath for Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is coming soon, and at this time of year, I am especially mindful of the many blessings that fill my cup to overflowing.  One of the bountiful blessings that I am most thankful for is the gift of friendship.  This past week, a group of good friends and I spent the day together making [...]

International Mystery Box!

Can you guess what is in the International Mystery Box?

Thanksgiving is only a few weeks away, and then the holiday season will be upon us.  This week I have been sewing a tree decoration for an international holiday swap that I will be participating in.  I finished my decoration a few days ago.  And today, [...]

Placemat Purse Tutorial

Placemats are a wonderful, inexpensive medium for creating purses and totes.  I have made several using placemats I bought for a dollar at the Dollar Tree!  The following instructions are for making a purse out of 2 placemats and for adding a lining and pockets to the inside.
For this project you will need:
*  2 fabric [...]
